A big problem. I am extremely mad.
There is no excuse for this.
You, pastor in video, are the reason hate runs rampant in our. I was always taught the Christians were good and peaceful. I still believe that some are. But you make that very hard for the ones that actually are. Do you remember “love your neighbor as yourself” or “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” or even “do onto others as you would have them do to you”? Tell me, would you like to live like this? I do not care how you excuse your hate. I will not tolerate this. You are the mind of those I will stand against.
Christians who really are peaceful and outraged by this man, please don’t let your church be run by someone like him. Please stay peaceful. You can not like the act of homosexuality, but please never reach the point where you threaten the LGBT community like this. Thank you for your peacefulness. I wish I could hug you. We need more like you.

Oh, and by the way: I saw an epic church sign – billboard – on Christian Piatt’s blog today. It says:
“Missiongathering Christian Church is sorry for the narrow-minded, judgmental, deceptive, manipulative actions of those who took away the rights and equality of so many in the name of God. Our hearts are with you. Christianity for all.”
Mostly his church-sign posts are “church sign epic fails,” but when he finds awesome messages like that, he includes them as well…
That’s awesome! I love that one. Might have to find that and repost it on here.
I looked him up, don’t remember which video I watched but his name is Gene Robinson and he’s an Episcopalian bishop. He’s getting replaced soon because I guess they vote in a new bishop every so often, but the guy who is replacing him is “theologically liberal” and looks forward to working with him for the next few months. Hooray!
I just actually saw a video of him today. Yay for the new guy though. I like to see this sort of stuff.
It’s like frickin Westboro Baptist Church…those of us who are REAL Christians, who actually practice the whole “love your neighbor” thing, don’t like them.
Oh, and by the way, did you know there’s an openly gay…what is he…deacon? Bishop? I forget, and I don’t actually know what denomination he’s in, and of course tons of people hate him, but he’s openly gay and actually leads a church! I was so happy to hear about him. If I see the link again I’ll get it to you. There was a Youtube video of an interview some news channel did with him, you could probably google it.
I am glad some Christians are upset with him as well.
And yes, I’d like to read about him. I’ll have to see if I can Google him. If you find a link though, feel free to post it.
The sad part is that he thinks his views are God’s views and are of God. He doesn’t realize how ungodly he really is. He should be banned from every pulpit. How people mistake evil for the will of God is beyond me. So sad!
Christians are in an awkward place. On the one hand we are often attacked by those outside who don’t really know us, on the other we are attacked by those within who don’t really know us.
Romans 1 is where we read that Homosexuality is a sin. But so often Christians forget to read the rest of the chapter. Shortly after this text in 1:30 and 1:31 it states—
Rom 1:30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;
Rom 1:31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
Rom 1:32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Then it goes on
Rom 2:1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
The truth is, that while Homosexuality might be a sin, it is true that all of us are sinful and all of us deserve grace equally. That was the point of Jesus’ sacrifice.
I am truly sorry for this.
I am an Evangelical Christian, an outspoken and Biblical Evangelical Christian. My priority as a believer is the care and eternal salvation of those around me. I want all people to be saved as does God. This is not helpful. In fact this man is is a false preacher because instead of opening a door (Col 4:3) he is closing a door making it difficult to share the gospel which, according to John 3, is not a message of condemnation but of salvation and forgiveness.
I am also a believer, as a believer in the Scriptures, that God is love, and if you do not know love you do not know God. (1 John 4:8). I do not know this man’s God!
Could you perhaps find me the name of this preacher, as I believe a letter is in order.
First of all, I would like to thank you for the way you follow the teachings of the bible. Even though you believe what the bible tells you about homosexuality being a sin, you also believe that it is not your place to judge them. When I was still a Christian, I felt the exact same way because of what you have said here. Thank you so much! I know our core beliefs are vastly different but I am glad we can agree on an issue such as this.

Actually, more and more Christians recognise that the fight for equality is their fight too. More and more go all out to communicate that they accept us as we are. We are winning. The Bible says “Perfect love drives out all fear”.
I sure hope so. Thanks for that :)
Er, there are extremists that go both ways. You know this just as well as I do. As Christians, we are taught that homosexuality is wrong. HOWEVER, in the same token, there are many other things we are taught to be wrong. Judging is along with those….. this is why I, as a Christian, choose to go with the “hey it is not for me, but if it is what you choose, go for it” kind of opinion. I have done wrong in my life, however, am I going to stand up and point at other’s for their wrong doings? No. We, as children of “mom and dad” have also been taught if you point your finger at someone, you have three pointing back at you. Or was that Grandma and Grandpa? Who knows! LOL So, for me to get angered at things that people do that I do not agree with really does me no good. For me to call out choices of other’s is just a hypocricy. Whether it be my opinion of homosexuality, or this pastor! I do not think it is right for me to be able to point out their flaws without looking at my own first. Yes, there are “Christian’s” that make many of us not very appealing, this man, the Westboro Church, etc. However, that is not the majority. Most of us are accepting of all, tolerant of most, and try to be as loving as we are taught we should be. Whether your beliefs have changed or not, you know what we were taught. This man, is not teaching what we were taught to do by Jesus. We are taught to love one another, not judge (it is not our job, even though it is REALLY tempting to do sometimes), and be kind. That is what a Christian is taught to do. That is what I try to do. I am sorry this man upsets you, but do not let it do much for you, because by you doing so, it is giving this man more power than he deserves from you. It is like having a child, if you give them attention only when they are doing something that dissapoints us, they will keep doing it, just for the attention. HOWEVER, if you only show attention to the good things going on, they in return will act in a more possitive manner!!! I love you!
You are right. There are bad people on both sides of the theist/atheist fence. I should be more equal in pointing that out. Yes, this man does not reflect what you and I and most people raised in Christian households were and are taught. But he and people like him are making it hard for others to live with their own freedom that our constitution grants. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I am careful not to let this man (or other like him) get to me anymore than encouraging me to continue fighting for rights of those who are lacking currently.
Maybe you have a point though at the end there of something I really should do. Instead of focusing on the bad apples or eggs of a side, maybe I should post the good ones. Thanks :) I shall do just that.
I also have a huge problem with this, where was this?
According to this article here, he is Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C.
Thanks for the info, perhaps a trip to N.C. has made its way onto my agenda…
Glad I could help. Please, no matter which god(s) or lack of god(s) you represent, please do whatever you do respectfully.
Oh, I won’t actually go there or do anything, I just wanted to know in what part of the U.S. this was.
